Born and raised in the Edwina-Bridgeport community, his career of truck driving for many years allowed him to travel throughout the United States, but always chose to remain with family and friends in Newport, TN. His caring, generosity and love for others will always be remembered. Gary was a proud member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, enjoyed God’s word and listening to Gospel music with everyone. Preceded in death by mother Mildred Runyan; father Alfred Fine; grandfather and grandmother Howard and Winnie Runyan; special aunt Mary Dean Ford; special uncle Hugh “Morris” Runyan; several aunts and uncles. Gary was a loving husband to wife Ina Runyan and a great step dad to Rebecca and Terry White, Jeffery and Debbie Thornton, DJ and John Young, Roger and Regina Thornton. A wonderful papaw and pop’s to Shaun, Chassie, Tristen and Loren Inman, Kandesia and Jasmine Henderson, Kellie and Hunter Thornton, Jeremy, Heather, Isaac, Zachariah and Elizabeth Thornton, Caitlin Thornton. Gary was honored to be able to spend time with his two sisters Sue Ottinger, Linda and Roger Hall; brother Alfred Fine, along with Richard Ford a special cousin that was as close as a brother. Visitation services will be Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Fred Cagle and Rev. Steve Blanchard officiating. Interment services will be Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Burchfield Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home is honored to serve the Runyan family.
