Died: 10-08-2001 Bess Ailey, age 92, of Newport, peacefully passed away Monday evening, October 8, 2001 at 9:30 p.m. at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. She had been a resident in the good care of Baptist Convalescent Center for the past three years. She is survived by her daughters, Lorene Jenkins (the wife of Kirk Jenkins), of Newport, and Betty Gregory, of Cleveland, Ohio. Also surviving Mrs. Ailey is her brother, Wilbur Hale (the husband of Lucy Hale), of Newport, and sister-in-law, Nannie Hale, of Newport. In addition, she is survived by her three grandsons, Rod Gregory, of Cleveland, Ohio; Kirk Jenkins, of Sevierville; and Ken Jenkins, of Gatlinburg. Mrs. Ailey was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ailey, of Newport; and her brother, Allen Hale, also of Newport. The funeral will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Hardison officiating and eulogy by Ken Jenkins, with burial 11 a.m. Thursday in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
