Huff celebrates 99th birthday
John Henry Huff, of Seymour, celebrated his 99th birthday recently.
He was born Jan. 23, 1908, in Kentucky, to the late William A. and Sarah Law Huff. He was married to the late Stella Huff.
His family includes second wife, Connie F. Huff, and children Imogene and Roy Suttles, of Sevier County, and Betty Lou and Robert N. Myers, of Maryville. He has three grandchildren, Scotty Myers, Mike Suttles and Javonna Hall, and one great-grandchild, Kendra Hall.
Mr. Huff is a 73-year member of Second United Methodist Church, Knoxville. He is a member of the Masons and Eastern Star.

John H. Huff, age 101, ended his life’s work on Friday, July 31, 2009 at his Waldens Creek home in Sevier County, surrounded by family. He began his journey January 23, 1908 in the small coal mining community of Mingo Hollow in Claiborne County. He was the eldest of eight children and the last surviving child of the late William and Sara Law Huff. Awaiting him in Heaven’s bright city along with his mother and father were his beloved wife of fifty-eight years Stella Emert Huff, brothers Clyde Huff and wife Louise, Edgar Huff and wife Willie, Roy Huff, and Raymond Huff and wife Hettie, and sisters Theo Sharp and husband Fred, Mae Suttles and husband West, and Lois Brickey and husband Jack. One of his most cherished accomplishments was his graduation from Sevier County High School. He was a devoted and active member of Second United Methodist Church, Knoxville for 72 years until failing health forced him to become homebound. He retired from South Central Bell Telephone with thirty-eight years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. John was a Past Patron of Acasia-May Chapter Twenty-Four Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Masters Lodge No. 244 F.&A.M. He was a 50 year member in Coeur De Lion – Commandery #9 Knights Templar Knoxville, Tennessee.

Daughters: Imogene Suttles and husband Roy of Sevier County, Betty Myers and husband Bob of Maryville
Three Grandchildren: Mike Suttles and wife Mary of Waldens Creek with whom he made his home, Scotty Myers and wife Mitzi of Johnson City, Javonna Hall and husband Lenard of Waldens Creek
One great-granddaughter: Kendra Hall
Step-great-grandson: Jimmy McGill, both of Waldens Creek
Sister-in-law: Genevie Huff
Special nieces: Mary Emily Russell and husband David of Maryville, Blanche McCroskey of Sevierville
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the love and support given by his special caregiver Juanita Moore, the staff and nurses of Girling Health Care, and Caris Health Care.
Funeral service 7 PM Sunday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. John Troutman officiating. Family and friends will meet 11 AM Monday in Waldens Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery for interment. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
