- In 1880 Milas McTeer was living in Greenback, District 6, Loudon County,
Tennessee. The will of M. L. McTeer, written 14 February 1925, probated in
December 1927, bequeathed all property to his wife, Mary Alice McTeer until her
death, then to be divided equally to "my heirs, sons and daughters" (unnamed),
except that Bertha McTeer Mitchell is to have $2000 in addition to her share.
Executor: J. Frank Hammontree. Witnesses: R. M. Cook, W. H. Jones. Final
settlement of this estate was made on 20 July 1929; total assets were reported
as $8482.91; after numerous payments "on account" (funeral, doctor, monument,
hardware store bills, et cetera) and deductions for Bertha Mitchell's legacy,
the following ten persons were paid $425 each (some, but not all, are
identified specifically as sons and daughters): R. L. McTeer, Jennie Speaker,
E. H. McTeer, C. W. McTeer, Bertha Mitchell, Mrs. J. F. Hammontree, Sadie
McTeer, M. G. McTeer, Ella Mathews, Roe Airheart.
