(November 29, 1928 - December 19, 2016) Helen Cates, age 88 of Hartford, went to her heavenly home on Monday, December 19, 2016. Helen was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grassy Fork for many years. She led the singing for fifty-seven years and taught the children’s class. She preceded in death by her husband, Ben Cates; son, Bob Cates; parents, Charlie and Emma Clark; brother, Hugh L. (Wilma) Clark; sister, Alene (Glen) Pace; brother-in-law, Claude Mooneyham; great-grandson, Dylan Gates; seven nephews; and one niece. She is survived by her son, Gordon Cates; sisters, JoAnn Mooneyham, Maxine (Albert) Staton, and Joyce (Bill) Davis; grandchildren, Cindy Cates (Derrick) Webb, Kim (Terry) Gates, and Keith (Michelle) Cates; great-grandchildren, Carlie Ford, Kendrick White, Aaron (Briana) Gates, Charlie Gates, Coty Webb, Morgan Webb Grooms (Jeffrey), and Ashley Cates; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grassy Fork. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 11:00 am-12:00 noon on Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Manes Funeral Home.
