Months ago, you may recall a photo of a hometown girl who happens now to be living back in Newport. You know the former Adeline Stanbery, now Mrs. Larry Foster. Well, apparently the storm also blew them into my office on Friday and it was a pleasure to finally meet Larry. He is a California native, Los Angeles; -as he says the "land of fruits and nuts." He and Adeline have been living in Chattanooga for decades but have only been married about 20 years.
We hit it off quickly, when I learned he is a retired professional commercial photographer from the Elza Painter era of the large format cameras, such as Calumet and Hasselblatt. Larry worked as high-end catalogue photographer and also learned to master black and white printmaking. It seems that 20-plus years ago in Chattanooga he was working for Hunter Museum to photograph items for the American art collection. Adeline was secretary to the director of the museum and hence they met. Both had been previously married and the second marriage was meant to be, it seems. They are glad to be here in Newport looking up old friends and for new opportunities. Our resident genealogists will know that she is daughter of John Freeman Stanberry Jr., second son to Dr. John Freeman Stanbery Sr. I am most familiar with Stanbery Machine Shop across Broadway founded by the first son, Samuel Stanbery. The third child was Polly Stanbery Seehorn, mother of my friend, retired educator Charlie Seehorn. Adeline has two daughters, Sara P. Webb, a 4th grade teacher at Lookout Mtn. School; and Cynthia P. Trimble. Adeline is proud of her two teenaged sons. Larry's daughter, Theresa Lauzon, operates an eclectic boutique in Nashville called 12th Avenue South. I am almost sure that during the years visiting Nashville for press association events, we've passed right by her shop.
In plain talk, Newport may be a small town of about 8,000 population, but folks from every coast seem to find our doorstep and settle in for a spell.

You recall months ago, we talked about Adeline (Stanbery) Foster, of Newport, and her husband, Larry. Last Tuesday late morning Larry and I shared our interest in photography, and food, with a visit to Mary's Kitchen located between attorneys Tom Testerman and Bill Shults. By the way, Mary Scott is a wonderful person who is fulfilling a 50-year dream by opening her own restaurant. She worked for many years at Christopher Place with Drew Ogle. I recommend her chocolate peanut butter pie with a warning that it is rich enough to kill. Larry is a story unto himself because of his career as a professional commercial photographer in California. Soon, I hope to share some of his background with you.
