Nelle Vinson Stanberry Obituary
- [S24] The Newport Plain Talk, (http://www.newportplaintalk.com), 31 May 2011.
Adeline Stanbery Foster's courageous thirty-five year long battle with cancer ceased on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at her bedside surrounded by the family who loved her.
She was born at home on December 16, 1930, in the bucolic mountain town of Newport, Tennessee, the second female to be born into the Stanbery clan in over 70 years. A descendant of pioneer stock, Adeline hailed from settlers who were among the founding families of the North Carolina Territory which later became the state of Tennessee. She was the adored only child of the later John Freeman Stanbery III and Nelle Vinson Stanbery and the granddaughter of the late Dr. John F. Stanbery II and Ethel Wood Stanbery and the late Julius Clay Vinson and Cynthia Adeline Burnett Vinson.
Adeline studied Art at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. Professionally she served on the staff of The Hunter Museum of Art and later as the executive secretary of The Chattanooga Boys Choir. She was an accomplished and versatile painter.
She is survived by her husband of twenty-five years Laurence E. Foster, daughters Sarah Prichard Webb (Addison L., Jr.) and Cynthia Prichard Trimble (Thomas C.), and grandsons Addison Lockhart Webb III and Jefferson Lockwood Trimble, all of Chattanooga.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 12:00 (noon) at Union Cemetery, Newport, TN.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stokely Memorial Library, 383 East Broadway, Newport, TN 37821-3105 or The Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 1815 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
For those who are currently waging a personal battle with cancer, the worthiest of foes, her wise counsel would be this: never let cancer define who you are as a human and never lose sight of the tremendous blessings that God lavishes upon you day by day.
