PARROTTSVILLE- With autumn fast approaching, plans are under way for the various fall festivals held across the county, one of which is Heritage Days in Parrottsville. Monday evening saw the first meeting of the Heritage Committee at Parrottsville's City Hall. Scheduled for Oct. 13-14, Parrottsville's Heritage Days will feature 48 hours of contests, displays and fellowship for the hundreds of expected guests. Pat Gilbert will chair the committee to oversee the ever-popular chili cook-off and Liz Talley will once again organize the quilt show. Flower lovers will enjoy the show chaired by Betty Smith and Ronnie Hommel is putting together a car show. It wouldn't be a fall festival without a beauty pageant or two and Laura Nease is hard at work organizing this year's competitions. Entertainment of all sorts is being planned with Charley Talley scheduled to sing as well as other individuals and groups. When not dealing with chili contestants, Gilbert will also oversee a pumpkin contest. Patriotic events are in the works as well. "As always, we're excited about our festival," said a committee member, "and we look forward to seeing everyone there."

PARROTTSVILLE- Thad Balch, of Parrottsville, has announced his candidacy for re-election to the Parrottsville Board of Mayor and Commissioners. "It has been an honor for me to serve on the board of commissioners for the Town of Parrottsville the past four years," said Balch. "While I have been in office, we have been able to accomplish several positive things for the town and brought to light some other matters that need our attention. "One of those things was to remodel the town hall after there was a fire there. I am very proud of this accomplishment," he said. "We were able to do much more work than we originally estimated and still did it without a burden on the budget. "You have seen very little of me on the campaign trail and you won't see me at the polling precinct on election day handing out cards," said Balch. "I don't like the political game. But I am proud to be a Parrottsvilleian and will do anything I can to help this town. "I am asking for your vote on Election Day. "Parrottsville is a vital part of this county and we have a lot to be proud of," added Balch. "I hope that whomever ends up being mayor and on the board of commissioners can work together as a team. "We need to forget about politics and bring the community together," Balch concluded.
