PHILLIPS, EMERT R. - age 77, passed away December 25, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Mitchell Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, George Phillips; mother, Mary Pierce Phillips; sisters, Minnie Roberts, Pearl Morgan and Sue West; brothers, Jack and Dan Phillips and son-in-law, Ray McGaha.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Unieve Proffitt Phillips; son, Ronnie Phillips; daughter, Jeanell McGaha; daughter and son-in-law, Tony and Ruth Jones; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, all of Rutledge; sisters, Pauline McGinnis of Rutledge, Edith "Doll" Roach of Norris; brother, Paul "Bud" Phillips of Rutledge; sister-in-law, Wilma Phillips of Anderson County; host of other family and friends. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2000, at Smith Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Martin Roach, Rev. Danny Lamb, and Rev. Billy Curl officiating. Interment will be Thursday, December 28, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Shiloh Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith Funeral Home, in Rutledge.
