Mrs. Emma Jean Fowler, age 83, of Parrottsville, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Fowler was born September 2, 1929, and graduated from high school in 1945 at the age of sixteen. She graduated from college in 1947 and began her teaching career at that time, teaching in a one-room school and continued teaching for approximately 37 years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, beginning her membership at Warrensburg, then moving it to Newport when the Lodge was formed there. She was also a charter member of the Parrottsville Natural Bridge Ruritan Club where she served as treasurer for approximately ten years.
She was preceded in death by husband Lloyd Greer Fowler, her parents Luke and Alma Faye Barger Blazer, and aunt Bernice Dawson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sue Fowler and Cid Mozingo of Knoxville, cousin Burnette Harper of Newport, and aunt Jane Dawson of Bybee.
Eastern Star members will conduct a ceremony at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday evening prior to service and again from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening. A funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday evening January 21, 2013, in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Betty Shirley and Rev. Ned Ramsey officiating. The family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens for the 11:00 emtombment.
Because Emma Jean was a teacher and an avid reader, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Parrottsville Community Library, P.O. Box 147, Parrottsville, TN 37843. Arrangements by Costner-Maloy
