(March 3, 1944 - January 17, 2007) Richard Burton Smith, of Parrottsville, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ladye Eisenhower Smith; two brothers, Russell and Jerry Smith; also, his mother and father-in-law, Doyle and Sue Barger, all of Parrottsville. He is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Robert Chambers of Franklin, TN, and his two grandchildren, Alex and Arin Chambers of Franklin, TN. Others survivors include his sisters Betty and Louise Smith of Newport, Farrell and Doug Culberson of Longwood, Fla., Susan and Jerry Broyles of Greeneville, TN., and his brother-in-law, Bob and Patricia Barger of Parrottsville. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. Richard was a retired teacher from the Greeneville City School System. A memorial celebration will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Newport, 212 Washington Ave., Newport, TN 37821, on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 7:00 pm, with a reception to follow at the church. Those wishing to honor his memory may do so by making a donation to the Newport Theatre Guild Building Fund, P. O. Box 205, Newport, TN 37822. This building was his special dream.
