Mrs. Louie Irene Barger Gregg age 96 of Newport passed away Friday afternoon March 3, 2006 at Newport Health and Rehabilitation with her husband of 72 years holding her hand. She was born July 2, 1909 one of twelve children born to John H. and Betty Fleenor Barger. Louie Irene Barger and Charlie H. Gregg were married December 23, 1933 and with the exception of six years spent working in Cleveland, Ohio Louie had always lived in Cocke County. Mrs. Gregg was cared for at home by her husband until she entered the hospital January 31, 2006. She was a charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and attended as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her five brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Gregg is survived by her husband, Charlie Gregg of the home; brother, Fred Barger of Parrottsville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday March 7, 2006 at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Fugate officiating. Entombment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in memory of Louie. Memorials may be mailed to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 140 Lincoln Ave. Newport, TN 37821. Arrangements by Costner-Maloy.
