  Within months of their marriage Calvin and Julia Mateer set sail for China and more than twenty years of service to the cause of Missionary and Christian Education which culminated in the establishment and recognition of Shantung Christian University. Dr. Mateer was also active in the translation of textbooks and was a principal editor of the revised Madarin Bible.
