Rev. Willard Willis, age 81, of Maryville, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home. He was born June 15, 1932 to the late Rufus Frank and Ella Mae Lowe Willis of Bryson City, NC and Maryville, TN. Willard pastored for seventeen years with his church family at Ridgeview Baptist Church on Gamble Lane, Maryville. Then twenty two years with his family at Rescue Baptist on Vinegar Valley Road, Friendsville. His work for the Lord touched countless lives and he showered God’s love on every person he met. He will be missed by all until we meet again. Willard is also preceded in death by his first wife, Icie Jean Hurst Willis; oldest son, Elwin Ray Willis; brothers, William, Roland, Clyde, Mack and Billy Willis; sister, Louise Willis Hatcher King; brother in law, Dan Gourley; nephew, Richard King.
Loving survivors include his wife, Jetty Marie Hurley Cook Willis; daughter, Areta Jean “Penny” Walker; sons, Willard Jerome and Tony Lynn (Kim) Willis; brothers, Carol (Lorene), Lester, Cecil (Kathy) Willis; sisters, Wilma (Gene) Vaughn and Mildred Gourley; adoring grandchildren, Brian and Bradley Willis, Jim, Tim (Wendi) Walker, Wesley, Joshua (Ashley) and Toby Willis; several nieces nephews friends and extended family. Funeral service 10:00 AM Friday, May 2, 2014 at Rescue Baptist Church (4342 Vinegar Valley Rd, Friendsville), Rev. Doc Hatfield and Rev. Sidney Ogle officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville, (865) 982-6041, www.millerfuneralhome.org.
