Helen Dixie Ownby, 75, went to be with the Lord at her home on Toot Hollow Road, Bryson City, on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005.
She was a native of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.. She was the widow of Ralph L. Ownby Sr. and daughter of the late Rev. Earnest Ownby and Rushia Ownby of Pigeon Forge, Tenn. She was preceded in death by a sister, Trula Brackins, two brothers, Rex and J.L. Ownby of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and a son-in-law, Phillip Cope of Bryson City.
She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Cope of the home, Judy Allison and husband, Buddy, of Cherokee and Norma Pangle and husband, Ivan, of Pisgah Forest; son, Ralph L. Ownby Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Chris and Kristina Ownby, Michelle Ownby, Kevin and Misty Cope, Andy and Donna Cope, Terri and Chad Burton, Kristen Pangle and Lindsey Pangle; great-grandchildren, Tyler Taylor Cope and Mirinda Cope; and brother, Bill Ownby of Knoxville, Tenn.
Mrs. Ownby was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. The Revs. Dan Lambert, J. Gilbert and John Tagliarini will officiate. Burial will be in Swain Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Cope, David Cope, Danny Ownby, Steve Ownby, Tony Ownby, Eric Ownby, Robert Gerding and Nathan Robinson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Crisp Funeral Home.
