Barbara Ruth Trotter Engel, age 87, of Hamilton, Ohio, died March 15, 2013. Barbara was born in Maryville on July 19, 1925. She was the daughter of Tennessee State Senator John Thaddeus and Ollie Matthews Trotter. She received her degree in home economics at Maryville College and a degree in education from the University of Tennessee. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Barbara was a sixth grade teacher at Pierce Elementary, worked at Westside Federal Savings and Loan, and Cohen Enterprises. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was actively involved in the women’s group and sang in the choir for many years. She loved the United States and her patriotism was unrivaled. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers and sisters, Hugh (Naomi) Trotter, Earl (Emma) Trotter, Ona (Ben) Ray, Jonnie (Henry) Robinson, Louise (Comer) Johnson, Mary (Victor) Davies, Margaret (Kenneth) Abbott, Helen (William) Miller, Jane (Louis) Rullman; and special friend, Ralph Wiseman. She is survived by her children, David and Sherl Engel, Michael and Katrena Engel, and Julia Hilbert; grandchildren, Rachael Tenney, Sarah and Ken Cote, Joshua and Amy Engel, Amy and Andrew Stoll, Lisa Engel, Jennifer and Brady Webb, Allison and Adam Ritz, Raja Sundram and Suzanne Gill, Wesley Hilbert, Bethany Hilbert, and Katie Hilbert; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Brandon Horner, Robert Cruey, Heather Redmond, Michael Getty Jr., Nicholas Cote, Brennon and Marissa Engel, Ian Mann, Alexander Stoll, Zoey Webb, Vivian and Audrey Hilbert; great-great-grandchildren, Morrigan and Maison Horner, Alyssa Cruey, and Annabelle Redmond; many nieces and nephews; and loving companion Pepper. While Barbara lived in Hamilton most of her adult life, she was always a Tennessean at heart. A special thank you to all her caregivers in recent years. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, 212 S. Front St. Hamilton. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m., followed by graveside service at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown. It will be officiated by Rev. David E. Miller and Rev. Kenneth Abbott. Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church Radio Fund. Online condolences are available at http://weigelfuneralhome.com
