ABBOTT, MARGARET LOIS TROTTER - 88, of Maryville died February 12 at the home she shared with her beloved husband, Kenneth Kyle Abbott, Sr., from 1966 until he died in May 2005, shortly after their 63rd wedding anniversary. Born on December 21, 1918, she was the first of four daughters of the late Thaddeus and Ollie Matthews Trotter. After graduating from Maryville College in 1940, she taught mathematics several years in Townsend (riding back and forth on a mail truck), at Lanier High School, and at Everett High School, as well as summer school at Maryville High School. After her husband returned from four years' service during World War II, she became a full-time homemaker. She is survived by her son, the Reverend Kenneth Kyle Abbott, Jr., and daughter-in-law Mary Lindsay Abbott of Townsend; grandson Thomas Lindsay Abbott of Clinton, TN; grandson Michael William Abbott of Townsend; and sisters Jane Trotter Rullman and Barbara Trotter Engle of Cincinnati, OH. Another sister, Helen Trotter Miller, preceded her in death, as did her half brothers and sisters Earl, Hugh, Johnnie, Ona, Louise, and Mary. Her survivors also include the families of nieces and nephews Laura Rullman Dowers, Megan Rullman Ball, and Thad Rullman; David Engle, Michael Engle, and Julia Engle Hilbert; Nancy Miller; and Betty Jo Sharp. In addition, she is survived by the families of brothers- and sisters-in-law Howard and Mayme Abbott and Richard and Margaret Abbott of Maryville, Paul and Lorraine Abbott of Knoxville, Kenneth and Martha Abbott Carter of Colorado, and Dorothy Abbott Boswell (deceased). She also leaves dear friends and neighbors Margaret Davis, Charles and Gail Myers, and Arthur and Sarah Teffeteller, all from Maryville; as well as devoted caregivers Loren LeClair, Claire Kurtz, Marian Sterling, and Kevin Rio. A lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Maryville, she served as the principal infant caregiver during morning church services for 30 years. She and her husband also were long-time benefactors of Hiwassee College. The family will receive friends at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville on Saturday, February 17, from 1 to 2 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM by Rev. Abbott, assisted by the Reverend Brenda Carroll. Burial at Grandview Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hiwassee College, 225 Hiwassee College Drive, Madisonville, TN, 37354, or to a charity of your choice.
