Notes |
- Ambrose Mateer was a schoolteacher for eight years before he went into the
mercantile business in Rosston, Pennsylvania. About 1906 he moved to Ford
City, Pennsylvania, where he was a merchant selling drygoods and groceries.
When Ambrose M. Mateer of Ford City Boro died intestate on 25 June 1931, his
sons John A. and Edward Mateer, "only children and next of kin", declined
administration on his estate and requested that the Armstrong County Trust
Company be appointed to take charge. Assets of the estate included much rental
property in Ford City, Kittanning and Manorville; many long, complicated and
detailed accounts preceeded a final reckoning on 18 November 1943 which showed
no balance left for distribution. An affidavit of 6 July 1931 listed heirs as
John A. Mateer and Dr. Edward A. Mateer, both of Ford City, along with Mary
Louise Balbough, minor granddaughter; insurance beneficiary was noted as Marion
N. Balbach.
