DRISKILL, CLYDE, JR. - age 69, of Dandridge, formerly of Newport, passed away Monday Oct. 9, 2000 at Fort Sanders Park West Hospital in Knoxville. He was charter member of the Newport Regional Planning Commission since 1969 and served as chair from 1970 to February 1999. He served on the Board of the Newport Federal Bank. He was a member of the Newport Lions Club and served as president from 1967-68. He worked with the planning commission and the Newport Housing Authority (NHA). He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, he served on the music committee, sang in the choir and quartet, and had served on various other committees throughout the years. He was a charter member of the Newport Theatre Guild. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army.
Survivors are wife, Diane Driskill of the home; children, Mike and Beth Ford Driskill and Jon and Anne Dolan Driskill all of Knoxville, Kurt and Tricia Motte Huffman of Fall Branch, Kristi Huffman and Rick Drybread of Newport, and Kellye Huffman and Charlie Smith of Johnson City; grandchildren, Gwyn and Gavin Driskill and Cameron Driskill all of Knoxville, Abbott W.H. Drybread of Newport; sister and brother in law, Jane and Walter Anen of Knoxville; mother in law and father in law, Edith and Illiff Fred Williams of Newport; sister in law and brother in law, Pat Wade and Zellie Earnest of Kingsport, Emily and Dewey Ball and Jan and Richard Fancher all of Newport, and Sherry and Ron Trudeau of Jefferson City; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Riley Huffstetler, Rev. Charles (Chuck) Starks, Rev. Bob Erwin, Pastor Dave Bradford and Rev. Ron Fisher officiating, with burial in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that your gift be made to your favorite charity, as Clyde had so many.
