BLAZER, ROBERT D. - age 85, of Knoxville, died on November 1, 2010. Born in Parrottsville, Tennessee on November 21, 1924, he was the son of Edna Blazer and Joseph Blazer. Robert and Nell Barger were married 58 years ago in June and they are the parents of two children, Gail Blazer Van Hoozier and Robert D. Blazer, Jr. Robert was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Army. He taught at Lamar School in Washington County. He worked for the Social Security Administration for 36 years in Johnson City and Knoxville and as a supervisor in Oak Ridge. He was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church for over 50 years where he supported the church in various ways including serving on the church council, the finance committee, teaching Sunday school and as an usher. He is survived by his wife, Nell B. Blazer; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Carl Van Hoozier; son Robert D. Blazer, Jr. and granddaughters, Kendall and Erin Van Hoozier, all of Knoxville and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Messiah Lutheran Church on Wednesday, November 3 from 1:00 - 2:00 followed by a memorial service with Pastor Eric Murray officiating. Burial will be held at 4: 00 at Union Cemetery, Newport, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 6900 Kingston Pike Knoxville Tennessee 37919.
