William Walter Grindstaff, 81, of Cosby, passed away Sunday at the Mariner Health Care Center.
He was a WWII veteran.
He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Grassy Fork.
Walter was a retired farmer and retired from the Tennessee Highway Dept. in 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Minnie Landereth Grindstaff; sisters, Lillie Grindstaff and Lucille Hunter; and brothers, Edward and Earl Grindstaff.
He is survived by his wife, Cora Mae Ford Grindstaff of Cosby; children, Earl and daughter-in-law, Gay Phillips Grindstaff of Cosby, Barbara and son-in-law, Chuck Quintard of Atlanta, Georgia, John M. and daughter-in-law, Evelyn Grindstaff of Newport, and Karen and son-in-law, Johnny Messer of Newport; sister, Flora Barnhardt of Newport News, Virginia; grandchildren, Leonard, Earl, John, and Katrina Grindstaff, Melissa Ball and Ashley and Daniel Messer; and great-grandchildren, Kala, Leonard, and Ronnie Grindstaff and Dylan and Dakota Ball.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ransom Hall and Rev. Byron Chambers officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Brown Funeral Home.
Military rites will be provided by Lance Corporal Charles C. Roberts D.A.V. Chapter #102 at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
