Edward Compton, age 76, of Newport, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2007, at home with his wife by his side. He was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church, was a sergeant in the Korean War, and retired from General Motors in Elyria, Ohio. He then moved to Pikeville, Kentucky, before settling in Newport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Compton and Mary Ray Compton, of Pikeville, Kentucky. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Irene Ford Compton; children, Michael Compton, of Newport, and Angela Stephens and husband, Gary Ball, of Newport; four grandchildren, Jessica Reed and husband, Andy, of Newport; Erin Stephens, of Atlanta, Ga.; Stephanie Stephens, of Johnson City; and McKenzie Ball, of Newport; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Manny Reed, of Newport, and Rylee Carpenter, of Johnson City; brother, Robert Compton; one niece and one nephew, of Pikeville, Ky. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Brown Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Watts and the Rev. Junior Loveday officiating. Internment will be in Union Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home is in charge.
