On 1 May 1937 Josias G. McTeer of Blount County was judged incompetent to
manage his own financial affairs and A. E. McCulloch (his nephew) was appointed
guardian of his estate, consisting of 104 acres in the 13th Civil District,
Blount County, valued at $5000 and $1500 in personal property. Very shortly
after this guardianship was established "Uncle Joe" died unmarried and
intestate; A. E. McCulloch and Julian A. McTeer were appointed Administrators
of the estate. The only real property inventoried besides the 104 acres from
his mother was a two acre plot at the ford where the Maryville-Sevierville Road
crossed Little Ellejoy Creek, which land had been a part of the dower of Hettie
(McTeer) McCulloch.
Both these plots were sold in 1938 and the procedes distributed to nieces and
nephews in the following shares; one-fifth each to Dr. W. A. B. Trotter of
Knoxville and Wilson McTeer of Detroit, Michigan; one-tenth each to Will A.
McTeer and Julian A. McTeer of Rockford, Blount County; one-twentieth each to
Mamie Gamble Toole and Sarah Gamble of Blount County, Lutie Gamble Dupes of
Bakersfield, California, and Mallie Gamble Orr of Detroit, Michigan;
one-twentyfifth each to A. E. McCulloch of Maryville, Blount County, Annie
McCulloch and Cora (McCulloch) Caldwell of Riverdale, Maryland, and Stella
(McCulloch) Mitchell of College Station, Texas; finally one-half of
one-twentyfifth each to Dorothy McCulloch and J. Max McCulloch of Maryville,
Blount County, heirs of John A. McCulloch who died while the estate was in
probate.
Buried in Eusebia Cemetery.
