Arvid Van (Rip) Coggins died Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Newport Medical Center surrounded by his family.
A lifelong resident of Cocke County, he was born February 24, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents Furman and Georgia Coggins, sister Valerie Ottinger, brother Lucas Coggins, and son Jeffery Coggins.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Coggins, and daughter, Jan Coggins, both of Parrottsville; his son Joel and daughter-in-law Yvette Coggins of Greeneville; daughter-in-law Nancy Oberti of Lebanon; grandchildren Jeremy and Christopher Coggins of Greeneville and Andy and Lauran Coggins of Lebanon; great-grandson Daniel Coggins of Greeneville; sister and brother-in-law Iva Lee and Gordon Denton of Parrottsville; sister Stephanie Banks of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00—7:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Baptist Church, Parrottsville, on Thursday, February 27, 2014, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Harold Ball and Rev. Alvin Watts will officiate.
