Anna Kate Teague , 93 , a resident of Courtyards Briarcliff in Oak Ridge , TN , died peacefully in the presence of family and friends on Monday , September 21 , 2015.
The family will receive friends at 5 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Grace Covenant Church, 320 Robertsville Road in Oak Ridge with a memorial service following at 6 p.m.
Mrs. Teague was the second child of Judge George Shepherd and Laura (Williams) Shepherd. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Warren Shepherd and Jack Shepherd, by sons Ben Teague and Michael Barton, and husbands B.H. Teague and Dr. Charles J. Barton.
Mrs. Teague is survived by her sister, Helen Gorman, daughter- in -law Dr. Fran Teague , son and daughter- in -law Tom and Stephanie Teague , grandson Joseph Teague , a great-grand daughter Isabella Teague , and sons and daughters- in -law Charles Barton, Jr. and Rebecca Roller, David and Ann Barton, and Lorna Barton, along with numerous nephews and nieces from her immediate and extended families.
Mrs. Teague was born April 10, 1922 in a family home in Jones Cove, Sevier County, TN , near the banks of Yellow Britches Creek.
Mrs. Teague 's father was later an attorney and a State Circuit Court judge who lived in Newport, TN where she was raised. Her mother worked in the home. Mrs. Teague attended Carson Newman College for a short period in the 1940s.
She married Benjamin Harrison Teague , Jr. of Newport in August 1942 and traveled with him as he worked on various construction projects for the Tennessee Valley Authority. They moved to Oak Ridge on January 1, 1945.
Following her first husband's death in 1992 she married Dr. Charles Barton in 2004. They were active in Church and social causes. He died in 2009 and she remained in close touch with his surviving family members who visited her often.
She loved her family deeply, and regretted that illness late in her life prevented her from traveling to see relatives and old home sites in and around Cocke County.
Mrs. Teague was very involved in her church and her community.
Her family asks that all who wish to honor her life send donations to the Table of Grace Fund at Grace Covenant Church, 320 Robertsville Rd., Suite 2, Oak Ridge , TN 37830. Table of Grace provides free monthly meals to the community.
