Some of you keep in constant touch with my old friend, Doris Teague, of Johnson City. She and her late husband, John Abe Teague, and children have been long-time Plain Talk supporters. It was a pleasant surprise to chat with her by phone some weeks ago. She is still recovering from a springtime bout with pneumonia and a serious fall that left her partially blind in one eye. She said a fall in her home caused her to hit the back of her head against a vanity. As active as she is, it is difficult for me to believe she is 77. You know her three sons, too. Johnny Teague ended a many-year career with Farm Bureau last year to take a break and find a new way in his life. He is 55. TV and movie actor Marshall Teague had lived in Johnson City for a while and is now living with his California wife at Granite Falls near Hickory, NC, said Doris. Marshall is nursing an injured shoulder after recent surgery. Young Tyler, 46, is making yet another visit to China as a consultant in the jewelry industry. Doris and I were talking about how difficult it is to get about with sight only in one eye-particularly when you are trying to drive. She said she has always admired Mike Proffitt who lost an eye as a boy but has adjusted and done well with one eye. In plain talk, while some of us think we have a struggle through life with all our faculties in places, others manage well with less and do more.
