(September 17, 1923 - January 29, 2008) U.S. Veteran D. C. Brooks, age 84, of Newport, passed away, Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at his home. D. C. was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Eilleen Cagle and Inez Brooks; brother, H.G. Brooks. He is survived by his sister, Danila Weirs, Harrisonburg, VA. nephews, Jeff Brooks, Newport, Dan Brooks, White Pine, David Brooks, Newport, Donny Weirs, Harrisburg, PA, Mike Cagle, Morristown, Mark Brooks, Fresno, CA, Johnny Black and Doug Black, Seymour; nieces, Diana Weirs, Harrisonburg, VA, Pat Cagle, Columbus, GA, Gail Brooks, White Pine, Ramona Brooks, Newport, Carla Campbell, Pigeon Forge, and Debbie Black, of Seymour. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Friday, February 1, 2008 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jackie Swanger officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am, Saturday, February 2, 2008 in Union Cemetery, with L/Cpl Charles C. Roberts DAV Chapter 102 conducting military Rites. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services. In lieu of donations may be made to the L/Cpl Charles C. Roberts DAV Chapter 102, P. O. Box 67, Newport, TN 37822.
