Resided in Sevierville, TN
Jerry Donald Ward, of Sevierville, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014, following a short illness. Known as one of the region's premiere wood craftsman, furniture maker, and artist, Jerry was first and foremost a lover of people. A loving husband, father, compassionate friend, and helper to everyone he encountered, Jerry's life was a true example of a life well lived in service to others.
Born on September 19, 1948, Jerry was preceded in death by his youngest son, Micah Taulbee Ward; his father, premiere furniture make and local business man, Don Ward; his mother Juanita Ward; and his mother-in-law, Gypsy Emert Taulbee.
On July 8, 1967, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Brenda "Toby" Taulbee, who remains to this day the love of his life. Those bringing the greatest joy to Jerry's heart were his children and grandchildren. Surviving children include Rachel Hull (Robert) of Washington, DC; Aaron (Heather), Lydia Griffin (Timothy), JoAnna Ward (Luis) all of Sevierville, and Mary (Joshua) of Knoxville. Jerry (Moonpie) is also survived by his special band of hobos, as he often referred to his grandchildren; Hilary Woodrum (Hot Dog), Jacob Harper (June Bug), Catherine Trapani (Catfish), Isaac Ward (Eyeball), Jane-Evan Ward (Jelly Bean), Cade Lane (Cracker Jack), SarahJane Griffin (Sasquatch), and Elizabeth Griffin (Yizzard) and Adrion. Also surviving are Jerry's siblings, Sylvia Compton, Larry Ward, and Dale Ward, all of Sevier County.
In lieu of flowers, Jerry's recommendations are that you "buy local art and eat from an oval platter."
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday with funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Interment 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Middle Creek Cemetery. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
