Cosby High student injured in crash
Author: Kathy Hemsworth
Dillon B. Denton, 17, of Dry Fork Road, Del Rio, was injured Thursday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Wilton Springs Road (Highway 73). Cocke County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Daniel Conard reported Denton was traveling east on Wilton Springs Road in a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway. According to the report, after the vehicle left the roadway, it traveled down an embankment and about 150 feet through a field before turning sideways and striking a ditch with its right side. As the vehicle struck the ditch, it began to roll over in the air, making contact with the ground three times before coming to a complete stop on its wheels, about 50 feet from the ditch line, Conard reported. The report states during the last rollover, Denton was ejected from the left side of the vehicle, and was thrown about 60 feet in the same direction of the rollover, landing in a yard. Allied E.M.S. transported Denton to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was later transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The Cosby Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the call.
