TURNER, LEN O. - born October 2, 1920, of Knoxville, passed away at his home Dec. 7, 1999 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. Turner and Sarah. He was a graduate of Cocke County High School. He was active in local politics and served on the Cocke County Board of Education for 12 years. He was an avid hunter. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the South Pacific. He is survived by his wife, Louie Smith Turner; daughters, Sarah Tucker and Mary Lou Gregory, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Renee and Russell Tucker, Chris Gregory, Lori Baker, Sarabeth and Kristi Adkins; sisters, Annie Laurie Stewart of Waynesville, NC, Minnie Sue Hixon of Newport, Cora Lou Turner of Johnson City, Francis Self of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. The funeral will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim McKenzie and Rev. Robert Ashley officiating, with burial 11 a.m. Saturday at the Turner Family Cemetery in Del Rio. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. prior to the funeral at Manes Funeral Home, 363 East Main St. Newport, TN 37821. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
