Frances Leone Smith, 91, passed away surrounded by her family at her home in Del Rio, Tuesday afternoon, August 25.
Leone was the daughter of Mary Caroline Bible and Art Smith. She was born and raised in Cocke County. She married Arthur Edwin Smith and lived at Max Patch, North Carolina, before moving to Del Rio. She was a life-long member of the Del Rio First Church of God.
Leone had four brothers, Euel Smith, Doyle L. Smith, Floyd Smith and Arthur B. Smith, and five sisters, Ruby Smith, Iva Freeman, Louie Turner, Loiree Collins, and Bureda Finchum. Her brothers-in-law were Carl Smith, Floyd Smith, Fred Smith, and Roy Smith. Leone had two children, Frances Marie Smith and Ernest Lloyd Smith. Her daughter-in-law is Evelyn Smith and sons-in-law were Jack Clark and Glen Ellison. Leone’s husband, Arthur; daughter, Marie; siblings, Euel, Floyd, and Ruby; brothers-in-law, Carl, Floyd, Fred and Roy; and sons-in-law, Jack and Glen, preceded her.
Leone was known lovingly as "Mamaw" to eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are: Marty Clark, Debbie Shell, David Smith, Glenda Gregg, Darryl Smith, Emma Lee Smith, Karen Ellison, and Lauren Ellison. Her great-grandchildren are Garrett Shell, Anissa Gregg, Deven Smith, Jayma Clark, Megan Smith, Mallory Clark, and Gabriel Shell.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 28, at 1 p.m., at the Del Rio First Church of God with the Reverend Robert Ashley officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 27, at Manes Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Del Rio First Church of God or the Marie Ellison Memorial Library.
