Fifty-five-year-old Cosby resident Earl Marion Grindstaff will be sentenced on May 2 after pleading guilty on Tuesday to five counts of aggravated sexual battery.
Stone told Judge Hooper that the defendant is alleged to have had "improper sexual contact" with a girl less than 13 years old on five occasions between December 2003 and February 2004.
The judge accepted Grindstaff’s guilty plea and will conduct a sentencing hearing in May to determine punishment in the case.

Earl M. Grindstaff, of Newport passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was retired from the U. S. Navy after over 22 years of faithful service. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter William and Cora Mae (Ford) Grindstaff; grandparents Dr. Parker B. and Maggie Ford, William and Minnie (Landreth) Grindstaff. He is survived by his wife, Ota Gay Grindstaff; sons Leonard (Julie) Grindstaff, Earl W. (significant other Hollins) Grindstaff and John (Elizabeth) Grindstaff; grandchildren Kayla, Leonard Jr.,Ronnie, Kaitlyn, Cade, Lilly, John Jr.and Emily; great grandchild Aden; brother John (Evelyn) Grindstaff; sisters Barbara (Chuck) Quintard and Karen (Mike) Click; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 PM Friday July 1, 2011 at Brown Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11:00AM, July 2, 2011 at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Ransom Hall officiating. A graveside service will follow in Resthaven Cemetery.
