U.S. Veteran Cecil Edgar McGaha, age 89, of Newport, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Newport Health & Rehabilitation Center. Cecil was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church for over 50years. He was also a graduate of Mars Hill College and a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Trula Costner McGaha; parents, Dr. W. E. and Lauvinia McGaha; daughter-in-law, Patricia Ramsey; and grandson, Shawn Ramsey. He is survived by his stepsons, Buddy Don Ramsey, Dot Ramsey, Jr. and wife Linda; special grandson, Jason Ramsey; special great granddaughter, Alex Ramsey all of Newport. Grandchildren, Cecilia (Chad) Fisher of Calhoun, GA; Willie (Christie) Ramsey of Parrottsville, Jennifer (Greg) Thompson of Chattanooga, Randy Ramsey of Newport, Rick Long of Mohawk; siblings Dudley McGaha of Alcoa, Meriam Anderson of Knoxville, Lena (Bill) Brake of Seymour, Devida King of Paducah, KY; special neighbors, Ruth Moneymaker, L. B. and Patsy Ottinger; several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ransom Hall officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, in Union Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Legion Memorial Building Fund in care of the US Bank, 301 East Main Street, Newport, TN 37821, in his memory.
