Mary Ellen Calfee Witt, 96, of Knoxville, formerly of Newport, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Shannondale Health Center in Knoxville.
She was a homemaker and a member of Phi Mu Sorority at the University of Alabama. Mary served as fraternity housemother at both the University of Alabama and the University of Tennessee. She was a member of Central Baptist Church at Bearden, Tenn.
Her husband, William Vard Calfee; parents, George and Artie Jane (Bolton) Tittle; sisters, Luster Belle (Tittle) Swaim, Margaret (Tittle) Cobble, and Aurelia (Tittle) Clark, and brother, Carl Tittle, preceded him in death.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sandra Calfee, of Newport; and her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Robert Pruitt, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Andy S. Calfee, of Newport; Lt. Col. Mark Pruitt and his wife, Chris, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Lance Pruitt and his wife, Mary, of Knoxville; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Witt will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends.
Graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery with Dr. Rich Lloyd officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 261 E. Broadway, Newport, TN 37821.
Brown Funeral Home has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Mrs. Mary Ellen Calfee Witt.
