U.S. Veteran Hoyle Eugene (Gene) Willis, age 88, of Parrottsville, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at home surrounded by a host of loving family, friends and caregivers.
He was a faithful member of Bridgeport Freewill Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U S Army Air Force.
He is survived by his daughters Frances and Shirley Willis; brother and sister-in-law John Lewis and Eula Willis of White Pine, brother-in-law Ozias Seay of Newport; sister-in-law, Jonita Lunsford of Point Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death on February 25, 2010 by his wife of 67 years Azzalea Lunsford Willis. Also preceding him in death were his parents Julius Andrew and Lillie Lee Willis, brother and sister-in-law, Emerson and C. L. Willis, brother Earl Willis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cora and Gary Clark, Ora and Leonard Seay, Auline and Ottie Clark, LouVerna and Barrington Clark, Edith Seay, Pearl Willis, Beatrice Willis and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Terrell Anderson and Allie Lee Lunsford, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Oscar and Belva Lunsford, Clifford and Orpha Lunsford, Ance and Ethel Lunsford and Emmette and Della Lunsford, brother-in-law, Allen Lunsford, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ella and Jim Crowder, Tessie and Leonard Willis, Annie and Ernest Seay, Dorothy and Keppy Ellison, sister-in-law, Della Lunsford and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday, September 14, 2010 with the funeral to follow at 8:00 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hal Kirk, Rev. Tim Carson and Rev. Randall Frisbee officiating.
Burial will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in Union Cemetery; pallbearers will be, E. J. Seay, Dwight Seay, Herman Willis, Clyde Willis, Jeff Jennings and Jerry Jennings. The family would like to express their thanks to each and everyone for your love and support during the loss of both of our parents this year. Thanks to the caregivers who were so loving and caring to our parents, our family who has been there faithfully, our wonderful neighbors who were always there to help or visit, our church families, pastors, and anyone else who spoke a prayer, brought food, visited or spoke kind and comforting words during this difficult time.
