HENSLEY, ETTA LORA, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008, surrounded by family at Asbury Acres Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She and her husband, Glen Hensley, who died in 1990, were long-time residents of South Knox County. She was born Feb. 23, 1919, the second oldest of five children of Luther and Fannie Mikles to survive infanthood. She leaves a sister, Frances Reagan, and brother, Jim Mikles. Predeceasing her were brothers Martin and Jack Mikles. Mrs. Hensley worked for many years in the meat departments of White Stores in downtown Knoxville and South Knoxville. She was a long-time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She and her husband were avid hunters and fishers for many years. In her later years, Mrs. Hensley was cared for by her nephew, Brian Hensley and his wife, Valerie.
Survivors
She also leaves nieces and nephews, Lois Reagan Thomas, Mike Mikles, Sylvia Mikles Greer, Troy Hensley, Tim, Greg and Scott Smithers, and Jodi Smithers Long, and sisters-in-law Faye and Mary Hensley, Helen Logan, Frances Raley, Mamie Purkey and Sara Mikles, as well as several great-nieces and nephews. The family expresses its appreciation to the staff of Asbury Acres for its kind and attentive care to Mrs. Hensley.
Service
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Cesar Correa of Mt. Olive Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial South Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Berry’s. Berry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
