Rachel Elizabeth Black Ball, age 91, departed this life on May 28, 2014, at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville. She was born August 30, 1922 in Greenville, SC to Solomon and Celia Black and moved to Cocke County at the age of four. She was a long time member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Ball; sons Robert Walter Ball, Ricky Ball and daughter-in-law June Ball; brothers, John and Leonard Black; sisters, Bell Ball, Lou Emma Burnett, and Pauline Crum; great-great granddaughter, Jaycee Chesteen. She is survived by her son, Ottis Ball and wife Radie of Rockwood, TN, daughter Darlene Barger and husband Bill Barger of Knoxville, TN, daughter-in-law Cathy Ball of Newport, TN; grandchildren Reggie and Diane Ball of Chapel Hill, NC, Rhonda and Dale Bandy, Amy and Jeff Stevens, Chad and Andrea Barger, Jon and Alexandria Barger, all of Knoxville, TN, Audrey and Joel Baucom of Tega Cay, SC, Sandra Ball of Fort Mill, SC., Rocky and Amy Ball of Newport, TN., Bridget and Troy Gibson of Cosby, TN, and Nelson Bennett of Strawberry Plains, TN.; great grandchildren, Daniel Ball, Sydney Bennett, Justin, Jordan, and Joshua Stevens, Grant and Anna Barger, Emrys and Isadora Barger, Conner, Emma, and Maddox Baucom, Chelsea Chesteen, Caitlyn Hembree, Tyler Chambers, Tristan, Haley and Catherine Ball; great great grandchildren, Jayleigh Chesteen, Gavin and Arlee Hembree and Kamden Chambers; sister, Joneta Ball; brother, S.C. Black; sisters-in-law, Geneva Ball and Lorene (Bo) Ball. Children of her heart – Sue and Jimmy Townsend, Alejandra and Malachi Ocampo. At her special request, “Special thanks to Darlene and Bill and Ottis and Radie for their loving care.” The family will receive friends 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, June 3,2014, with services following at 7:00pm, in Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Swanger and Rev. Ottis Ball officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the Ball Family Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
