He was a member of Bat Harbor Church. He was preceded in death by his son, David Wesley Ball Jr.; grandson, Mickey Phillips; parents, Irene and Carl Ball; and brothers, Richard Ball and Homer Ball. Survivors include his wife, Monett Ball; daughters and sons-in-law, Davida and David Dockery, Sherry and Terry Sweeten, and Vella and Billy Barnett; daughter, Amy Murphy; sons, Gregg Stroud and James Murphy; 14 grandchildren. Sisters, Faye Miller, Reppie Fox, and Bobbie Davis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Gene Sane, Bessie and Scott Brown, Velma and Robert Fox, Vella and Bruce Warden; brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Mayme Ball, Roger and Virginia Ball, Randy and Genie Ball, and Chan and Arlene Ball. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Dora and James Howard and Ernie Owens, all of Newport. Funeral service was held 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2009, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Dalton, Rev. Willie Winters, and Rev. Ricky Foust officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2009, in Union Cemetery. Family received friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Anthony Harris, James Howard, Bobby Williams, Billy Barnett, Terry Sweeten, and Robert Fox. The family would like to extend special thanks to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice.
