(July 27, 1927 - January 5, 2015) Ruth Reece Thomas, age 87, of Newport, passed away, Monday, January 5, 2015 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. She was an active attendee of the Church of the Nazarene in Newport until health failed. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Reece; daughter, Elaine R. Brady; parents, Absalom R. and Susan Loduska Self; sisters, Pearl Freeman and Maude Renner; and brother, John Lewis Self. She is survived by her husband, James Albert Thomas, of Newport; son, Luther (Jane) Reece of McComb, MS; grandchildren, Dieonne (Greg) Reed of White Pine, TN; Amanda Reece of McComb, MS, Jason (Katye) Reece of Madison, MS; and Travis Cardwell of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Taylor Ruth Reed, of White Pine; Maggie Reece of Madsion, MS; also several nieces, nephews and other family. She is also survived by her special caregiver and loving friend, Chris Wilds Grubbs; close friends and neighbors, Tommy and Gaye Wiley and Gladys Gibson; and her Wal-Mart Family. The family would like to say a very special “Thank You” to the special caring medical staff in Newport; Dr. King and staff at Tennova Emergency Services; Christi Bradshaw and staff at Newport Rural Medical Center; Morristown-Hamblen 4th floor Critical Care nurses including, Tammy, Joanna, Samantha, Chasity and Amber. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Manes Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 with funeral services following at 11:00 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Gregg officiating.
