Helen Virginia Self Ponder, age 90, of Del Rio, passed away Monday, September 14, 2009, at her son’s home. She was born, September 7, 1919, in Laurens, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Self and Sally Clark Self; husband, Hugh Smart Ponder; brothers, William Nathan Self, Charles Emmett Self, Elbert Smith Self, Monia Lewis Self, John Greer Self, Woodrow Wayne Self, Lacy Leroy Self, Edward Gwin Self; sister, Evelyn Ann Self Wilds; and granddaughter, Callie Virginia Ponder. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debra Ponder; grandchildren, Tammy (Tyson) Palmer and Joseph (Melissa) Ponder; two great-grandchildren Makayla Palmer and Jaydyn Ponder of Newport; and sister, Juanita (Ezra) Stewart, of Morristown; special son, Danny Coffey of Newport; other special family and grandchildren, Linda and Danny Lemming and children, Joseph and Callie, Brian and Sharon Lee and children, Alicia, Jennifer and Kristin and Ciara. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ernest Sawyer, Rev. Hal Kirk, and Rev. Willie Winters officiating. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m Wednesday prior to the services. Burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September, 17, 2009 in the Jonestown Cemetery.
