Edward G. Self, age 84, of Newport, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Mariner Health of Newport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Sally Self; brothers, Nathan, Emmett, Elbert, John, and Monia Self; sister, Evelyn Smith; granddaughter, Trisha Ruppert; son, Robert Gongloff, and wife, Elizabeth Self.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Self, of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Nyoka Gongloff, of PA; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Paul Vovcsko, of Sewell, NJ, Christine and Charles Ruppert, of Newport; brother, Roy Self, of Morristown; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and James E. Stewart, of Morristown; sister, Helen Ponder, of Del Rio; grandchildren, Nikki Thorn, Shalon Logan, Sherry, Tina, and Paula Jean Vovcsko, Charlene and Charles Ruppert Jr., Robert Gongloff, Jr., Angie Purcell, Laurie Murray; great-grandchildren, Sierra Logan, Anthony Howard, Kenny and Danielle Hance, Timmy Ruppert, Taylor Ruppert, and Raine and Zackary Purcell.
The funeral will be held 8 p.m. Monday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Fred Cagle and Rev. Ransom Hall officiating, with burial 10 a.m. Tuesday in Union Cemetery, with L/Cpl Charles C. Roberts DAV Chapter 102 conducting military rites.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral.
