Mr. Monia Louis Self, age 93, of Del Rio, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2001, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
He was a retired farmer. Mr. Self was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Company E 321 First Infantry during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Kate Self.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his step-son, Phillip G. Ponder, Sr., of Dale City, Virginia; sisters, Juanita Stewart, of Morristown and Helen Ponder with whom he made his home; brothers, Roy Self, of Morristown and Edward G. Self, of Morristown; and step-grandson, Phillip G. Ponder, Jr., of Mt. Holly, NC.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2001, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ernest Sawyer officiating. Interment in Clark Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Disabled American Veterans L/CPL Charles C. Roberts Chapter 102.
Costner-Maloy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
