Mrs. Ann Ruth Martin Clark, of Sweetwater, born March 14, 1918 to Lena McKnight Martin and George Sneed Martin, of Kenton, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Newport Medical Center.
She was married to the late James Huff Clark in 1943. She was a member of Sweetwater Church of Christ.
Mrs. Clark was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She worked for the Farm Security Administration during World War II. She was a teacher at Sweetwater High School, a farmer, a conservationist, and she led a green organic life before the world knew such a thing existed. She sat on the boards of Soil Conservation Service, Monroe County Fire Insurance Association, and Farm Bureau.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Marti and Walter Steffen and Penny and Fletcher Ervin, grandchildren Robert Ervin, Michael Ervin, Jane and Paul Gaither, Sarah and David McMillen, Thomas and Tara Steffen, great- grandchildren David Ervin, Elizabeth Ervin, Rachael Ervin, Sarah Ervin, Kevin Ervin, James Gaither, Tommy Gaither, Charlie Gaither, Jack McMillen, Katherine McMillen and Clark Steffen.
Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Huff Cemetery in Bridgeport for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service with Pastor Rick Spell officiating. The interment will follow in the Huff Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Foothills Land Conservancy, 373 Ellis Ave. Maryville, TN 37804 or to National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
