Delsie Carver Bryant, age 84 of Cosby passed away Thursday May 18, 2006 at her home. One of the last surviving residents of the Mountain Rest Community, now the Cosby area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, she was very proud of her family’s mountain heritage. She dearly enjoyed sharing her many memories with family and friends and had become a valued resource of local mountain history. She was an expert on local mountain wildflowers and took many walks and nature hikes, identifying them for friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Bryant; parents, Elbert and Glennie Proffitt Carver; brothers, Homer, Casey, Dacus, David, Kyle, and Carl Carver, and sister, Dorothy Carver Whitaker. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Judy Bryant; daughter and son-in-law, Anne Bryant and John Kirk Williams of Cosby; grandchildren, Marc and Bill Bryant, of Knoxville, Kathy Bryant Gehl and husband Ron of Holt, Michigan, Lizzie and Brianna Williams of Cosby; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Sydney Gehl; sister, Uvela Baxter of Orlando, Florida; special sister-in-law, Emma Dean Carver of Cosby, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as "Nen". She was a lifelong member of Liberty Church. She retired after 31 years with the Cocke County School System, having taught at Webb Springs, Caton’s Grove, Bogard, English Creek, Cosby, Hartford and Smoky Mountain Elementary Schools. The family will be receiving friends at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home, Sunday May 21 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday May 22 at 1 p.m. at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home with burial at Bryant Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Marc Bryant, Bill Bryant, Ron Gehl, John Kirk Williams, Carl Jay Carver, and Danny Carver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Church or Bryant Cemetery. Arrangements by Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
