There is another business that had opened and I have been by the restaurant on my travels along Hwy. 107 at Slabtown. Then, Gordon and Janice Sexton appeared in our office and I got a chance to talk to Gordon about the new restaurant. It opened as "The Fox Den" in November 2008 and is now going to be open every day with the recent announcement of Sunday openings. I asked him about Bob Seay's restaurant, wondering about the competition, but Gordon said that Seay had gotten out of the restaurant business. About two years ago the Sextons bought the store property from Don Norwood, a local contractor/builder. Since then, the Sextons refurbished the store and expanded to include a large dining area and kitchen. They hope to open another business on the property soon. I asked Gordon why he chose the name. "Our Dad was a fox hunter," he said, referring to Wiley Sexton. Then I recalled an old friend from years ago, "Jughead" Ramsey, who was an active foxhunter and Gordon had hunted with him and also Lawrence Owenby. Brother and prominent restaurant operator Prentice Sexton is helping out at The Fox Den teaching the cooks some of his famous recipes and techniques. Mike Proffitt, Freddy Myers, and many others have already beat me to the dessert line. You'll hear more when I check out their ribeye steaks or seafood.
In plain talk, just as the spring dogwoods light up the landscape, people are preparing new ways to serve and sell their wares.
