Mrs. Cleo Carlisle Huff, age 83, passed away on Saturday evening, May 19, 2007 at her home in Del Rio surrounded by her loving family and friends. She had suffered with Alzheimer’s disease for the past five years and three weeks ago sustained a debilitating stroke.
Cleo was born on October 28, 1923 in Del Rio to parents, Leslie D. and Scottie Clark Carlisle who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Cocke County High School and was married in 1941 to Frank Huff, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1981. A son-in-law, Johnny Glen Ellison and two brothers-in-law Fletcher Ford and Floyd A. Branam, also preceded her in death.
Cleo Huff was a well known and much loved member of the Del Rio Community having worked with the Cocke County Board of Education in the Del Rio School system for over twenty years, retiring in 1990. She touched the lives of hundreds of children during her employment at Del Rio School and was loved and respected by all who knew her.
Cleo loved tending her large garden every year, doing yard work and spending time with her family and friends. She was of the Baptist faith and was a long time member of Del Rio Baptist Church.
Cleo is survived by her loving children, Betty Ann Huff, Mary Jo Huff Taylor, Jane Huff Cureton and husband Billy of Del Rio, Jessie Huff Ellison and Stephen Huff and wife Amy of Newport. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Susan Taylor of Smyrna, TN, Todd Cureton and wife Angie of Del Rio, Katherine Cureton Swan and husband Shane of Newport, Jessie Huff and Justin Thomas of Newport, one great-grandchildren Will Cureton of Del Rio. Two sisters, Audra C. Ford and Mary C. Branam and their families all of Newport survive her, as well as many special friends, Gay Webb, Fred Taylor (former son-in-law), Toby Abrams, Louise Taylor all of Newport, Ruth Morrow Maloy, Keith A. Husted, Benny and Hattie Daniels of Del Rio and her much beloved caregivers who were considered as part of her family, Chad Stokely, Kathleen Raper, Judy Cagle, Heather Arnold, Vonda Jones, Kathy Kelley, Smokey Mountain Health and Hospice employees and Dr. David J. Kickliter.
The family will receive friends at Manes Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, with funeral services at 8:00pm with Reverend Scott Gorrell and Reverend Bill Murr officiating. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Huff Cemetery in Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of a charity of your choice.
