Mr. Charles Lee Valentine, age 94, of Cosby, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014, at the James H. Quillen VA Hospital in Johnson City.
He was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II.
He was a retired employee of the National Park Service.
He organized the construction of Smoky Mountain Full Gospel Church where he attended faithfully as a founding member until his health declined.
He was preceded in death by his sons Troy Dale Valentine and Richard Valentine, parents Rev. Lloyd and Fannie Valentine, sisters Millie Jane Whitlock, Bertie Jenkins, Rosie Costner, and Artel Baxter, and brothers Beecher Valentine and Homer Valentine.
Survivors include his wife Arlene Valentine of the home; sons Delmar (Patricia) Williamson of Newport and Lacy (Emma) Valentine of Cosby; grandchildren Lisa Valentine, Leslie Valentine, and Randy Valentine, all of Cosby; Jackie Valentine of Jefferson City; Ricky Valentine of Sevierville; Billy Williamson and step-grandchild Gary M. Denton, both of Newport ; great-grandchildren Gabriella Valentine of Cosby, William Williamson, Ashley Williamson, and step-great-grandchildren Jacob and Justin Denton, all of Newport ; and brother Elmer 'Cotton' Valentine of Cosby. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews, including special nieces Linda Caldwell and Sheena Caldwell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Smoky Mountain Full Gospel Church with Rev. Bobby Jack Benson and Rev. Kathy Benson officiating. Interment will be in the Valentine Cemetery.
Military honors will be provided by the East Tennessee Honor Guard.
The casket will lie in state at the church from 1:30—2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral.
The family received friends from 6:00—8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
