Did I mention the giant monkey or orangutan that some folks claim they've seen on English Mountain? I first heard of this during the winter from a fellow who bumped into me and again asked if we had checked into it. Tony Clark is an occasional breakfast eater at Arby's where I see him, but had no news on the monkey sighting. Have you heard anything? Tony is an interesting fellow but not kin to the local Clark families, as he is from the upper East Tenn. Area. His local connection is that Ruble Allen's daughter, Mary Ann, is Tony's wife. I found that out while learning where he lived-off Friendship Road. She is one of the three Allen children, the others being Willie, a good mechanic, and Gregg, who is nicknamed "Bondo." Tony is semi-retired after working many years as a truck driver with Road Way Trucking. He is also interested in local history and asked if I had seen some of the historic preservation at Bulls Gap, which I had not. Not 48-hours later, while interviewing banker L.C. Gregg for a story he happened to mention that one of his pastimes is "cowboy shooting" at Bulls Gap. He, Freddie Myers and others enjoy this sport-if that is the correct term. I am not acquainted with it but suspect we will have to do a story to let you know more about the shoot-outs.
