- The will of Robert Sloan of Monroe County, "having been aflicted for several years past", written 5 October 1870, probated in January 1871, bequeathed to wife Elizabeth, "all land I now live on" for her natural life and her sons to provide her maintenance; to four sons now living, James, John, Bartley and Isaac, the farm after their mother's death; to son Isaac, a mule and buggy; to daughters Sarah Mason and Mary Jane Sloan, each a cow and calf; the tools wagon and farm implements to be divided among the sons including the blacksmith tools, but James to have the mandrel; William Sloan's two children to have $5.00 each when of age, son John to pay this legacy to Sarah Selena Sloan and son Bartley to pay Mary Jane Sloan; at their mother's death the household goods to be divided among four daughters, Martha Best, Lucinda McSpadden, Sarah Mason and Mary Jane Sloan. Executors: sons James and John, to serve without sureties. Witnesses: M. J. C. Sloan, Henry McSpadden.
