SAMS , ARLIE R.J. "PAPAW" - age 65, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday evening, July 15, 2001 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice Center. He was a retired Iron worker from Local 384, and a US Marine Corp veteran. Mr. Sams was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Salomia Sams ; and a sister, Imogene Sams . He is survived by a son and daughter in law, Russell J. and Pam Sams of Spartanburg, SC; daughter and son in law, Sherry and Mike Williams of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kristin, Jessica, and Justin Sams , all of Spartanburg, SC, and Derek Williams of Knoxville; great grandson, Ethan Everhart of Spartanburg, SC; sisters and brothers, Ralph and Joyce Sams , Wanda and Charles Webb, Beatrice and Leon May, all of Knoxville, Agnes and Charles Hill of Pigeon Forge and Barbara and Gary Clark of Severn, MD. Mr. Sams is at Highland South Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy. where the family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Highland South Cemetery with Rev. Tim Morgan officiating. Arrangements by Highland South Funeral Home, 573-7300.
